Arundhati Roy, Indian author and activist, once said "The mandarins of the corporate world, the CEOs, the bankers and politicians, the judges and generals look down on us from high and shake their heads sternly. 'There’s no alternative' they say. And let slip the dogs of war."
Yet their wars have generated a huge amount of resistance around the globe. From the biggest day of protest against the bombing of Iraq to the toppling of neo-liberal governments in Latin America, millions are saying enough. The inequality of the system has never been so stark, so widely detested or resisted.
That’s why Marxism is so relevant. These five days are a unique chance for the movement to assess our progress and plan our next steps, to look at our tradition and theories, and develop our philosophy of change.
