Stop the War - Afghanistan: Time to go

venue:
London
event date:
Saturday, 20 November 2010

The war in Afghanistan is in crisis. The strategy is crumbling,
with Obama’s sacking of General McChrystal and an increasingly corrupt Karzai government.
There is constant talk of withdrawal dates, itself an admission that Nato is losing the war. The violence and destruction are intensifying. Thousands of Afghan civilians are dying every year and very little rebuilding is being done.
Despite 77% of people being opposed to Britain’s involvement in Afghanistan, this government continues to send troops to kill and die in a war that is being lost and which has no justification. Far from making Britain safer, as claimed, government foreign policy has in fact made Britain a more dangerous place.
Now is a really important time for everyone who opposes the war to take action. There is growing unease about the war in Parliament but the government is still committed to at least four more years of bloodshed
in a futile war.
The war is a very weak point for this government and deeply unpopular.
What we do right now will decisively impact in building the case for withdrawal. It’s time for the troops to go.
